Our Story

The history of Due Ladroni has its roots at the beginning of the 20th century, in the heart of the historic centre of Rome, in Piazza Nicosia
Piazza Nicosia was a place of transit and a hub of trade activities due to its proximity to the Tiber River.
Right there was a small tavern, which although simple and modest in character, was a reference point for the inhabitants of the area and was a place of refreshment for the many passers-by who animated the streets of the city center.
Over the years and through different management companies, the place maintained its characteristics, while adapting to the changing environment.
The '40s and '50s represented a turning point in the growth of the restaurant: the management passed to two partners who improved it and made it a refined restaurant, with a more diverse menu and more complete service, changes that also led to an increase in prices.
The price increase, alongside with the attitude of the restaurant owners, did not go unnoticed and the people of the neighborhood jokingly began calling them the "two thieves" (literal translation of ‘I due ladroni’)

Towards the end of the 1980s, the business was taken over by the current owner, Salvatore Di Maria, and since then many changes have been carried out: the quality and the service of the restaurant have improved further, a more comprehensive wine list has been introduced, together with a broad selection of dishes with more refined and sought-after twists.

In this lively neighborhood, made even more charming by monuments such as Ara Pacis and the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna, for years the Due Ladroni restaurant has been a haunt for foodies, for Roman socialites, for curious passers-by and for tourists with a more refined taste, all of them looking for a place where they could receive a warm reception, discreet and professional service and, of course, good food.
Today, Salvatore Di Maria’s children, Daniele and Michela, manage - alongside their father - this place which is deeply rooted in the history of the territory. Daniele and Michela are two young and knowledgeable professionals who have decided to make their skills available to the family business, carrying out their activity every day in an attentive and impeccable way.
